Good Health: College Students Opt for Meningitis Vaccines

Meningitis is a bacterial infection that infects 1,400 to 2,800 people each year. The highest number of cases is found on college campuses because the disease is spread by direct contact and living in dormitories affects the spread.

The symptoms for meningitis can be overlooked as they appear to be like other diseases symptoms, meningitis victims may not be properly diagnosed. About 10 percent of meningitis victims die because of symptoms not being properly diagnosed and treated sooner. Though not required, more students are opting for a meningitis vaccine as a precautionary measure.
